Former Minister responds to questions about his company's dealings with the project

Opposition MP Zane DeSilva yesterday responded to suggestions of insider dealings over the Port Royal golf project, telling the Public Accounts Committee that he recused himself from relevant meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Golf Courses, and that the Auditor General made some factual errors in her Special Report on the $24 million project.
DeSilva was a member of the Board of Trustees from 2007 until 2009 when he became a Government Minister. His company Island Construction did excavation work on the $24 million project which was criticised by the Auditor General for budget overruns, conflicts of interest and poor financial oversight.
The Port Royal Golf Course Improvement and Capital Development project was originally budgeted at $4.5 million.
DeSilva’s appearance at the PAC was voluntary.
